World Biometrics Day

Biometrics Day is a new date on the calendar of events to promote biometrics as a permanent part of the future. Each year, the event falls on the 8th of October. The celebration of World Biometrics Day was planned for 2020, but unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first celebration will take place in 2021.

World Biometrics Day

Biometrics Day is held in Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia, but anyone from anywhere in the world can participate in the event. Biometrics Day is a space for discussion and a chance to get more informed and closer to the issues, opportunities and solutions provided by the use of biometrics and new technologies in everyday life, including a multidisciplinary debate with the participation of researchers, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts of biometric solutions.

Jan Szajda
President of IDENTT

Co-owner and CEO of IDENTT – a company offering solutions for document and
identity verification using modern technologies, including Deep Learning. The main
areas of interest are: information security and trust services, in particular electronic
authentication and authorisation methods, also using biometrics. A graduate of the
Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Fundamental Problems of
Technology, specialisation: Computer Security.

Krystian Kulczycki
President of PayEye

President and co-owner of PayEye. An experienced manager and specialist in managing banks and financial institutions.  He himself has been connected with the financial industry for over two decades. He sat on the boards of, among others PTF, Santander Consumer Bank and Eurobank.

Maciej Potocki
President of Wroclaw Technology Park

A graduate of the Faculty of Computer Science and Management at the Wrocław University of Technology, where he earned a master’s degree in financial systems management. He also completed interdisciplinary postgraduate Executive MBA studies. For years he worked at the Wroclaw City Hall, where, as an associate of the Mayor, he was responsible for supervising several departments, including: Corporate Governance Office, Mayor’s Office, International Relations Office, City Promotion Office, City Council Office, Office of the Municipal Consumer Advocate, Press Office (Social Communication Department), Office of Cooperation with Higher Education Institutions, Internal Audit Team and Project Management Team. In 2012 he was appointed President of the Management Board of Wrocław Technology Park.

 

Ph. D. Adam Porębski
Deputy Dean of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music, composer

Adam Porębski in 2014 completed his master studies in composition and violin at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. In 2016 he obtained a PhD in musical arts. Since september 2020 he has been a Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Music Theory and Music Therapy. Adam Porębski artistic output includes over 70 compositions, performed in many European countries, the USA and Australia, and includes various genres and forms of instrumental, vocal and electroacoustic music.

Ph. D. Artur Rot
The Wrocław University of Economics and Business

Ph. D. Artur Rot, research and teaching staff member at the Wrocław University of
Economics and Business, where he is Head of the Department of Information
Systems. His research interests relate to applications of modern information
technologies in business organisations, and in particular, they concern issues related
to Industry 4.0, the security of information systems, blockchain technology, the
Internet of things, cloud computing solutions and virtualisation of IT resources.
Member of the Board of the Scientific Society for Economic Informatics (NTIE) (2006-
2014), Rector’s representative in the Council of the Science and Technology Cluster
– “Lower Silesian Cyber Security Cluster”, author of over 100 scientific publications.

Ph. D. Wojciech Wodo
The Wrocław University of Science and Technology

Wojciech Wodo has been a research and teaching assistant professor at the
Department of Fundamentals of Computer Science at Wrocław University of Science
and Technology (since 2015). Wojciech Wodo obtained a doctorate in technical
sciences in the discipline of computer science at the Institute of Computer Science of
the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw (2019). His scientific interests include computer security issues, with particular emphasis on biometrics, electronic identity and the cybersecurity of digital banking. He is also interested in innovation management, entrepreneurship, public-private partnerships and high technologies.
Wojciech Wodo is a graduate of a special programme of the Ministry of Science and
Higher Education Top 500 Innovators (2012) at the Haas Business School at the
University of California in Berkeley, where he continued his research in the area of
entrepreneurship and innovation as a visiting scientist in 2015. Dr Wodo runs his own consulting company – 360 Degrees, where he helps SME
entrepreneurs to obtain external funding for R&D projects and provides advice in the area of cybersecurity.

Ph. D. Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń, professor of the Wrocław University of Economics and Business

A graduate of the Wrocław University of Economics and Business in Wrocław and the
University of Wrocław. Specialist in branding, service design and new marketing
trends. Since 2006 – an employee of the Wrocław University of Economics and
Business. Author, scientific editor and reviewer of numerous national and
international scientific publications on management and marketing. Participant of
more than fifty national and international scientific conferences and many scientific
internships, in countries such as: the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Italy,
Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Author of a publication published in 2019 by
Wydawnictwo Naukowe PWN entitled: “Rebranding. Strategiczna zmiana dla
organizacji” [Rebranding. A strategic change for the organisation]. She has also been
a business practitioner since 2008.

Ph. D. Marcin Hernes, Professor of the Wrocław University of Economics and Business
The Wrocław University of Economics and Business

Marcin Hernes, Ph.D., Professor at UEW specializes in economic informatics; his interests include artificial intelligence, including cognitive technologies and machine learning in business process support, multi-agent systems and knowledge management systems. Author of over 150 scientific publications; head of the Department of Process Management, director of the Center for Intelligent Management Systems, member of IEEE, Polish Association of Artificial Intelligence and Scientific Society for Computer Science in Economics, co-organizer of many international conferences; has conducted numerous scientific and implementation projects for enterprises.

Piotr Muca
Chief Innovation Officer, Credit Agricole Bank Polska

A graduate of the Wrocław University of Technology. He specializes in project management – he implemented projects in telecommunications, energy sector and banking. At present, he is responsible for the Innovation area in Credit Agricole Bank Polska S.A., where he has been working since 2006.

Ph. D. Michał Kisiel
Analyst at Bankier.pl, The Wrocław University of Economics and Business

Analyst at Bankier.pl, the leading online provider of financial news in Poland. Assistant professor at
the University of Economics at Wroclaw. The author and co-author of several scientific publications
on banking and personal finance – „Internet and the competitiveness of banks in Poland” (2005),
“Innovative banking services” (2007), “Personal finance. Behaviours, products, strategies” (2012),
“Noncard payment systems in Poland” (2014). His areas of interest encompass the evolution of retail
banking, financial innovation, payment systems and developments in personal finance.

Ph. D. Mateusz Trokielewicz
The Warsaw University of Technology

He is a PhD in technical sciences, an expert with many years of experience in biometric identification using the iris pattern. Assistant professor at the Institute of Automation and Applied Computer Science of the Warsaw University of Technology. Author and co-author of several international publications in biometrics and biometric security and papers presented at major international scientific conferences. He is interested in industrial design, architecture, urban planning, infrastructure and photography. He loves travelling, growing plants, swimming, running and listening to music.

Head of Social Communication Department, graduate of Warsaw University and Master of Business Administration studies. Previously he was a radio and television journalist and producer of TVN “Facts”. World, European and Polish championships medalist, member of the Olympic team in modern pentathlon.

Product Expert at Mercedes-Benz Wróbel Group

Working as a Product Expert at Mercedes-Benz Wróbel Group since January 2020. Associated with the Mercedes brand since the beginning of 2017, his interest in automotive has been with him “since forever”….
